about

Brett Spivey is a prolific writer. Composing and recording for nearly 20 years, he has a wealth of old material to revisit and plenty of new ideas to develop. Case in point is Spivey’s latest album, the blue heavens. Two and a half years in the making, this album is a compilation of old and new ideas, fully realized with the help of some fine musicians. As Spivey points out, “Finding the right players for this project was the easy part. Getting everyone’s schedules together for recording was a major challenge.” Needless to say everything seems to have fell into place with great results. The album is very moody—its shifting cinematic sequences dreamily mesh with brooding heavy guitars to create a nice balance of ambience and consequence. The trick is how to label this music. It’s a mixture of ambient electronic and space rock with cinematic flair. Spivey like to call it “heavy mellow.” As of now this album is offered as a digital download only. Hopefully this double disc will be available in CD form soon, possibly as a special holiday release.
